The John Philip Sousa Award
* Since 1954 thousands of High Schools and Junior Highs have honoring
their top band students with the John Philip Sousa Award. The pinnacle
of achievement in an band program, the Sousa Award recognizes outstanding
dedication and superior musicianship, qualities that all directors seek
to instill in students. This award has become a nationwide symbol of excellence
in musical achievement. This award is limited to one per school.
The Patrick Gilmore Award
* Because only one student can receive the John Philip Sousa Award
we have the Patrick S. Gilmore Award. Named for the legendary 19th century
bandmaster, this award is used as a runner-up award to Sousa award and
honors the same desirable qualities of superior musicianship, enthusiasm,
and dedication.
The Director's Award
* Honor's Outstanding 8th Grade Band Members for not only their performance
skills, but also for their leadership, loyalty, and enthusiasm for the
band program.
The Louis Armstrong Award
* Recognizes the highest achievement in jazz performance and enthusiasm
for the art of jazz. Presented to the top jazz band performer. This award
is limited to one per school.
The Woody Herman Award
* This award is presented to the outstanding section players in the
jazz band. It recognizes the same qualities of outstanding performance
and enthusiasm for jazz music as the Louis Armstrong Award.
